China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Zhang Jun said on Thursday that the international community needs to take concrete actions to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and help the two countries get back on track as the status quo of Palestine's occupied territory is not sustainable.

Zhang made the remarks during a briefing hosted by China, who has taken over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, adding that the priority of the conflict is to push all parties to abide by a ceasefire and remain calm, as well as keep efforts in all diplomatic directions.

The Chinese side also called for convenience of the entry of essential goods and materials into Gaza and a full end on Gaza restrictions by Israel as soon as possible.

Noting that the status quo of Palestine's occupied territory cannot be sustainable, Zhang said the international community should surpass the trivial crisis control and face the roots of the issue. Both countries need to be encouraged to pursue mutual security and shift the current negative situation, Zhang said, adding that the "two-state solution" needs a boost.

The peace of Israel and Palestine can coexist if the inalienable rights of Palestinians are reinstated, thus following the harmonious coexistence between Arab and Jewish people and lasting peace in the Middle East, Zhang said.

Earlier in August, violence erupted between Palestinians and Israelis in Gaza, causing more than 40 casualties and hundreds of injuries with significant damaged to the infrastructure.
