China heatwave: Sichuan Province faces hydropower shortage

Southwest China's Sichuan Province gets more than 80 percent of its electricity from hydropower. Because of the heatwave and drought, the water volume of its main rivers has dropped by 50 percent compared to the same period last year, so the hydroelectric power generation capacity has also dropped by the same amount from about 900 million kWh to about 450 million kWh.
