China's Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan will compete in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships women's doubles final after beating Japanese duo Matsumoto Mayu and Nagahara Wakana 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) on the latter's home turf on Saturday.

It is the third time the defending champions have qualified for the event's final, following their victories in 2017 and 2021.

Chen and Jia needed only 52 minutes to edge out home favorites Mayu and Wakana, who won the World Championships in 2018 and 2019. The Chinese duo now have a 7-2 winning record against the Japanese pair.

Mayu and Wakana did not find form till the end of the match, while their hard-fought 2-1 quarterfinal victory a day earlier against South Korean duo Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan, against whom they had only won twice in nine encounters, took a physical toll.

Chen and Jia will play South Korea's Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong or Thailand's Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the final on Sunday.
