Gary Harris of the Orlando Magic suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee according to ESPN. He will undergo a further evaluation to determine his timetable for return. As the 2022-23 NBA regular season will begin in mid-October, he will inevitably miss some of the games of the Magic, which will play against the Detroit Pistons on the road to begin their regular season.

Harris was drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the 19th pick in 2014 and then sent to the Denver Nuggets. He became the team's starting shooting guard from the second season and grew to be a qualified 3-D player in the following years.

In October 2017, Harris signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Nuggets and had his best-performing season in the 2017-18 campaign during which he averaged 17.5 points, 1.8 steals and 2.3 triples at 39.6 percent of 3-point rate.

However, Harris has been dealing with various injuries all these years, including a partially torn right groin, a foot injury, a right hip injury and hamstring tightness among others. These injuries held him back from further improving his performance or keeping what he had.

In March 2021, the Nuggets traded Harris to the Magic. He averaged 11.1 points and 1.9 triples at 38.4 percent of 3-point rate in 60 games for the team. In June, he agreed to a two-year, $26 million extension.

The Magic are not the only team that have key players suffer an injury before the new season begins. Danilo Gallinari of the Boston Celtics quitted Italy's FIBA Basketball World Cup European qualifier game against Georgia due to left knee injury on Saturday.

Gallinari scored 17 points, four rebounds and one assists before he returned to the locker room with the support of a staff member and a teammate. Italy beat Georgia 91-84 in the end.

"It's tough to talk about basketball after what what we saw happen to Danilo," Italy's captain Luigi Datome said. "We wish him, of course, the best, and we will wait for the MRI to see what happened to him."

"It's not so easy to talk to about basketball right now. There's something so much more important than everything else. I've been so proud to coach Gallo," Gianmarco Pozzecco, head coach of Italy said. "He was so excited to play with this group, and they all respect Gallo, of course, because he's one of the best, probably the best Italian basketball player ever."

Gallinari averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 triples at 38.1 percent of 3-point rate while playing most of his games off the bench for the Atlanta Hawks last season. He was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in June and then was waived by the team. Later, he joined the Celtics for a two-year, $13.3 million deal.

Despite that Gallinari is already 35 years old, he is still considered a decent enhancement for the Celtics' bench firepower with his shooting and isolation abilities. Nonetheless, Gallinari has a long history of injuries, which could be a hidden risk for him during the 82-game regular season.

The Celtics will host the Philadelphia 76ers at home in the first game of the 2022-23 season on October 18.
