The Ukrainian armed forces have broken through the first line of defense of Russian troops in the Kherson region, Ukrinform reported Monday.

The Russian side has not responded to this claim.

The Ukrainian army's southern command said on Monday it has started a counter-offensive against Russian forces in the country's south. Ukraine has regularly stated its intention to retake its south, and in particular the city of Kherson.
