Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich have extended the contract of the club's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic for another three years until June 30, 2026, after a unanimous agreement was reached at a meeting on Monday evening, the team announced in a statement.

Salihamidzic played nine seasons in Bayern as a player between 1998 and 2007 and won six Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokal championships and one UEFA Champions League title with the club. He retired in 2012 and was appointed as Bayern's sporting director in 2017.

While Salihamidzic was in the position, Bayern completed multiple transfers that were very helpful to the club, including Corentin Tolisso, Leon Gorezka and Alphonso Davies. The club won five Bundesliga championships, two DFB-Pokal championships and one UEFA Champions League title during these five years.

"During his five years in the FC Bayern management, Hasan Salihamidzic has done an excellent job," Herbert Hainer, president of Bayern said in the statement. "He is constantly advancing the sporting side of our first team and young talents, both structurally and personnel-wise, as well as our targets on the pitch. He always keeps in mind the financial conditions."

"I would like to thank the supervisory board for their trust, especially supervisory board chairman Herbert Hainer, who has supported my ideas and plans at every juncture," Salihamidzic said. "I've always said: I love FC Bayern, Munich is my home. I'm very pleased that we can continue our very good and productive collaboration until 2026."

Having moved their long-time ace scorer Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer, Bayern landed Sadio Mane from Liverpool as well as Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus. The club have finished their first four Bundesliga matches with three wins and one draw to lead on the standings table.
