The Chengdu Auto Show, scheduled to last 10 days until Sunday, was suspended after five days due to local COVID-19 control measures.

According to a statement posted on the auto show's website, the event will be halted from Tuesday, and further details will be announced later.

The suspension decision was made due to a local government notice published on Monday, forbidding all kinds of gathering activities from Tuesday. The notice, which will be valid for five days, will be subject to adjustment based on the epidemic situation, the statement said.

The 25th Chengdu Auto Show was the first large auto show held in China this year after the Beijing Auto Show was canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks in April.

The event, which kicked off last Friday and was being held in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, showcased 1,600 cars from more than 100 brands from home and abroad.

Chengdu reported 141 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 70 new asymptomatic cases on Monday, according to local official data.
