The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the U.S. should face the current human rights situation caused by gun violence and take concrete actions to control gun use to protect American people's rights to live.

Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to China's take on the multiple shootings in the U.S. recently.

Zhao said amid the long "victim list" from gun violence, American politicians yet haven't adopted any effective measures on its control except for repeated talk and shows out of hypocrisy.

The U.S. side should face the reality and control the effect of violence down to a minimum to actually protect the lives of Americans, instead of pointing fingers at other countries' internal affairs using the excuse of "human rights", Zhao said.

It is noticed that many Americans have changed their lifestyle due to the fights against massive gun violence, Zhao said, adding that the insecurity and fear from American people are escalating under the cloud of "gun violence epidemic".

According to the data analyses of the U.S. Gun Violence Archive by NBC, the country has experienced, on average, 13 massive shootings per week since the beginning of 2022. From the assessment by the U.S. non-profit organization "Everytown for Gun Safety", more than 110 people were killed and 200 were injured every day from 2016 to 2020, with over 40,000 casualties per year on average.

The gun violence results in drastic drop in domestic life expectancy, leading to a "wide gap" compared with peer countries, the Financial Times said in a comment on August 26.
