China has completed the track-laying for its first sea-crossing high-speed railway in east China's Fujian Province on August 30. The vital 277.42-kilometer component of China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network links the provincial capital, Fuzhou, with the port city of Xiamen. With a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour and eight stations along the route, it is expected to slash the travel time between the two cities to just one hour. The entire project is slated for completion in 2023.
