Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday sent a congratulatory message to Tuimalealiifano Sualauvi Vaaletoa II on his re-election as Samoa's head of state.

Noting that China and Samoa are comprehensive strategic partners featuring mutual respect and common development, Xi said that bilateral relations have made great progress since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

China attaches great importance to the development of relations with Samoa, he said.

China is ready to work with Samoa to enhance political mutual trust, expand friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and enrich bilateral relations so as to benefit the two countries and their peoples, he added.
