China's Xinjiang autonomous region is now home to nearly 26 million people. That's 20 percent more than the number in 2010, with the Uygur group being the largest segment. The region's GDP has more than doubled in the last 10 years, thanks to the steps taken by the central and local government in building public transportation, boosting cross-border trade through land ports, as well as cultivating natural resources.
