As autumn comes, farmers are busy working on the rice paddy fields and hope for a bumper harvest in Kaili City, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Guizhou Province. In the Miao language, the name "Kaili" means the land that is suitable for cultivation. The plantation history of a rice variety in Kaili can be dated back to the Jiajing Emperor's ruling period (1521-1567) in the Ming Dynasty.
