China says maritime disputes must be settled on basis of int'l law

A virtual international seminar was held on Thursday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the signature of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). China's Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng in an interview said countries should settle maritime disputes through direct negotiations. He also stressed that talks must be on the basis of respecting historical facts and international law as well as in being line with the UNCLOS.
