Health and fitness technology, powered by data and artificial intelligence, has been among the most popular attractions for visitors to the 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), with game-changing hardware and software that can support home fitness buffs and medical practitioners – including in traditional Chinese medicine.

The healthcare service exhibition zone at CIFTIS covers 7,700 square meters, with exhibitors displaying their products that support public health and epidemic prevention, biomedicine and innovative medicine, digital medicine, smart healthcare, and traditional medicine.

One of the most eye-catching devices at the fair is a virtual personal trainer that caters to busy people who might not have time to go to the gym.

Connecting the mirror-like device to a user's smartphone gives access to a range of virtual coaches who provide on-screen training sessions. Wearable devices that monitor a user's heartbeat and other metrics can share data with the software which then uses artificial intelligence to score users' performance and recommend different exercise routines.

"The device can record your fitness data in a real-time video image in the system, and then it will give you a comprehensive evaluation of the fitness effect after data is processed through the cloud computing and edge computing in the artificial intelligence platform we have built. This way, we can give you an immersive fitness environment and experience using virtual technologies," said exhibitor Bai He, who works for the company that makes the device.

Traditional Chinese medicine, despite tracing its roots back thousands of years, still gets a tech upgrade with another system exhibited at the fair.

By compiling data about different medicinal components, mixtures and preparations, previously the domain of traditional medicine practitioners, end users of the software can be more knowledgeable about what remedies they are ingesting.

"Each bag of medicine has a QR code on the top of the package, so patients can scan this code to learn the quality data, its factory information, as well as its production date and other details," said the exhibitor Yan Wenyuan.
