In this photo series captured by CGTN, several Afghan nomads, locally known as Kuchis, travel along the Helmand-Kandahar highway.
Traditionally, these pastoral nomads in Afghanistan have no fixed home and have been migrating across the country for centuries with their livelihood depending on suitable weather and good pasturage.
Due to droughts and regional conflicts, many Kuchis have chosen to settle in rural areas or cities. Only a small number continue nomadic herding. Poverty and lack of access to health and education continue to present challenges to the Kuchis in improving their quality of life.
