Ukraine expects to receive 5 billion euros ($4.98 billion) in macro-financial aid from the European Union (EU) coming week to support the economy, army and to prepare for the looming winter, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Sunday.
"This will help to ensure the stability of our economy, support of the army and the ... heating season", Shmyhal said in a statement on Telegram ahead of talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The EU is preparing to release a new funding package of 5 billion euros for Ukraine, Bloomberg reported, citing EU diplomats familiar with the plan.
Denys Shmygal brought Kyiv's plea for more weapons to Germany on Sunday, saying his country needed additional help in its battle against Russia.
Shmygal is the first high-level Ukrainian official to visit Germany in months, in a sign of eased tensions between Kyiv and Berlin after a rocky patch.
The first stop on his trip was a meeting with German president, where Shmygal "discussed the military situation, strengthening sanctions and the need to provide weapons for Ukraine," he said on Twitter.
