The shortage of cybersecurity talents in China is expected to reach 3.27 million unfilled positions by 2027, according to a white paper released by the country's education ministry on Tuesday.

Thirty-four higher education institutions teach cyberspace security as a national first-level (primary) discipline. However, according to the white paper, only 30,000 people graduate with training in the field every year.

It said there is also a shortage of trained and experienced cybersecurity professionals, and many enterprises don't have dedicated cybersecurity personnel.

It also found that such talents are in great demand in industries such as energy, telecommunications, politics, law and finance.

China is ramping up efforts to protect the country's data with several cybersecurity laws, regulations and standards launched in recent years.
