China and Russia will make positive contributions to building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday at a regular presser in Beijing.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum that some challenges of a global nature "that threaten the whole world have replaced the pandemic."

During the speech, Putin admitted that some sectors of the Russian economy are suffering due to sanctions and political pressure and then laid out a new geopolitical order following the Ukraine crisis.

In response to the speech, Mao said China and Russia, as permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, will safeguard the international system with the UN at the core and international order based on international law, firmly practice true multilateralism and make contributions to the world economic recovery.

She pointed out that, in contrast, some countries ignored the purposes of the UN Charter and the norms of international law and imposed illegal unilateral sanctions on other countries at will, which seriously impacted the world's political and economic order and global governance.

China will continue to work with the international community, including Russia, to jointly promote world multi-polarization, economic globalization and democratization of international relations, she said.
