A massive landslide caused by the magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province on September 5 had blocked the only major road connecting the stricken Hailuogou Scenic Spot with Moxi Town in Luding County. Several excavators were immediately dispatched to open rescue channels. As of 8 a.m. on September 8, the quake's death toll has risen to 82, according to local emergency departments.
