The Indianapolis Colts have reached an agreement with offensive lineman Quenton Nelson over a four-year, $80 million contract extension, including $60 million guaranteed money, according to ESPN on Saturday.
The deal makes the offensive lineman the highest-paid guard in NFL history. His salary for the 2022 season is $13.8 million. The Colts have no interest in competing with other teams on the free agency market next year to keep Nelson, who the team's owner Jim Irsay called "a generational player."

Nelson has started in all of his games representing the Colts since the team drafted him with the sixth draft pick in 2018 and only missed four games this season because of an ankle injury. He was selected for Pro-Bowl in all four seasons, First-Team All-Pro three times and Second-Team All-Pro once.
Nelson was 12th in pass block win rate (94.1 percent) and 13th in run block win rate (71.7 percent) among all guards last season. "Everyone knows what great ability he has, but I think what makes Quenton special is how smart he plays and how instinctive he is," Colts head coach Frank Reich said. "I think that's what takes his game over the top. He's a physically dominant player, but it's his instincts and his intelligence that take him, I think, to another level."
The Colts are playing against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston in their first regular season game on Sunday.

The Las Vegas Raiders reached an agreement with their tight end, Darren Waller, over a three-year, $51 million extension, ESPN reported on Saturday.
"This was one of the most challenging negotiations I've encountered," Waller's agent Drew Rosenhaus said. "It is very rare for a 30-year-old player with two years left on his contract to get a new deal."
Waller signed a four-year, $29.8 million contract with the team in 2019, but his $14 million salary for this and next season are not guaranteed. He became a full-time starter in the 2019 season and completed 197 catches for 2,341 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2019 and 2020.

Last season, Waller missed six games for the Raiders due to COVID-19 and injuries.
"Darren Waller is an exemplary teammate in every way, and we're excited to see him continue to grow as a leader on this team," Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said. "Darren brings a tremendous commitment and work ethic to the building every day, and we couldn't be more thrilled that he will be a part of the Raiders Family for years to come."
