Zhang Zhizhen claimed an opening victory for China at the Davis Cup World Group II on Friday, as China tied with Uruguay 1-1.
Zhang wrapped up the match in only 55 minutes, defeating Ignacio Carou 6-2, 6-2.
Zhang and compatriot Wu Yibing, who is also included in the five-person roster of the Chinese squad, both had impressive runs to enter the main draw at the U.S. Open that concluded a week ago.
Chinese youngster Bu Yunchaokete conceded a match to Uruguay's Martin Cuevas following Zhang's victory.
Meanwhile, Great Britain failed to reach the Finals' knockout stage after Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury lost the deciding doubles against the Netherlands in Glasgow.
Spain drew with Canada 1-1, as U.S. Open champion Carlos Alcaraz was stunned, in what was his debut as world No.1, by Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 in Valencia.
