The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states on Friday called on all countries in the world to jointly build an open, transparent and efficient international energy market, reduce trade barriers and avoid excessive fluctuations in international commodity prices in the energy sector.
In a statement adopted by the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in Uzbekistan, the member countries, including China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, noted the complex situation of the international energy security.
Climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, regional crises, unilateral restrictive measures and other factors have severely impacted international energy supply and demand balance, as well as the production and supply chain of energy resources, causing drastic fluctuations in the energy market and a sharp rise in energy prices, the statement said.
The member countries support the energy producing, transit and consuming countries in strengthening coordination, thus ensuring the security and stability of international energy resource transportation routes and the smooth operation of international energy production and supply chains, according to the statement.
To promote the development of clean energy markets and make necessary contributions to the global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, the member countries propose to promote the building of a clean, low-carbon, secure and efficient energy system, thus diversifying energy varieties and sources, the statement said.
The member countries will vigorously promote the coordinated development of wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy, nuclear energy, biomass energy, hydrogen energy and energy storage, according to the statement.
It is of great significance to build a new electric power system that can adapt to the increasing proportion of new energy use, the statement said.
