In this week's Science Saturday, we look at science news ranging from Lunar exploration to satellite connectivity.

Lunar exploration

Lunar soil samples gathered by China's probe have been found to contain high water content. Researchers say these samples are important reservoirs of water that originate from solar winds. The Chang'e-5 had retrieved the samples two years ago. And a new mineral was discovered recently among them. China is the third country to discover a new lunar mineral, following the United States and the former Soviet Union.

Medical findings

Chinese scientists say a brain injury may heal itself. Their subject was a salamander, renowned for its ability to regenerate its spinal cord, heart and limbs. It can also regenerate brain areas following an injury. The researchers mapped its cell types and genes associated with neuro-degeneration in the brain and found some similarities in the human brain. They say this may be the key to improving treatments for severe injuries and unlocking humans' potential to regenerate. Current treatments rely on drug and stem cell therapies to boost or promote repair.

Planet exploration

A newly discovered planet may be suitable for life. It's one of two new "super Earth" type planets that were found orbiting the same star, some 100 light years away. It is 40 percent larger than Earth. Researchers say though it's very close to its star, it's about 6.5 times smaller than the sun and has a surface temperature half that of its star. This may allow the presence of liquid water on the planet's surface, provided it has a sufficient atmosphere.

Satellite connectivity

Apple has released its latest smartphones – iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Its satellite response feature will catch your eye! Even when you don't have a signal, you can communicate with emergency contacts in various life-threatening situations. For instance, when you are in a remote place and are injured or lost, the feature will call or text first responders or send alerts to your contact list. And this is even when you don't have mobile or Wi-Fi connections. The feature will be available on all iPhone 14 devices.
