Team China entered the Davis Cup World Group I playoffs with a 3-2 win in the best-of-five series against Team Uruguay on Saturday.
The two sides drew at 1-1 on the previous day, when Zhang Zhizhen and Martin Cuevas each took a match.
Uruguay came up on top first on Saturday when Cuevas and Ignacio Carou downed Chinese pair Bu Yunchaokete and Te Rigele 6-4, 6-4.
Zhang came to the rescue winning the crucial fourth match against Cuevas 6-0, 6-2, followed by Te sealing the deal against Carou 6-3, 7-6(3) in the decider.
Wu Yibing, who made history reaching the U.S. Open third round earlier this month, was included in the five-person roster but did not play this time.
The Davis Cup World Group I playoffs are scheduled to be held in early February 2023.
