Sirens wailed at 9:18 a.m. on Sunday at the September 18 Incident History Museum in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province, as China marked the 91st anniversary of the September 18 Incident with commemorative events across the country.

It was on September 18, 1931, that Japanese troops blew up a section of the railway under their control near Shenyang and accused Chinese troops of sabotage as a pretext for subsequent aggression.

The commemorations serve as a reminder for the Chinese people to keep those dark days in mind. History has repeatedly shown that invasions and wars are rarely successful, and that although evidence might be covered up, justice eventually prevails.
