The power-generating unit 13 of the Baihetan Hydropower Station passed a 72-hour trial operation and started formal operation on September 18, marking the eleventh power-generating unit that has gone operational out of a total of 16 units constructed in the mega project.
The Baihetan hydropower project is a 16 gigawatt (GW) hydroelectric facility under construction on the Jinsha River, the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and extends over Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. Upon completion and production, the hydropower station will generate an average of more than 62.4 billion kWh of electricity every year, sufficient for the annual electricity consumption of approximately 75 million people.
