China has strongly condemned the long-standing problem of arbitrary detention in the United States. China's representative to the UN in Geneva made the condemnation on Monday, during the 51st Session of the UN Human Rights Council. China's representative said the U.S. detained more than 1.7 million immigrants in 2021. Eighty percent were held in private detention facilities. The representative highlighted Guantanamo, where the U.S. has been conducting detention without trial for two decades. The representative urged the U.S. to face up to human rights violations, and provide relief and compensation to the victims.
