Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the commemorative event observing the International Day of Peace in Beijing on Wednesday.
Noting that the international security situation has undergone profound and complex changes, Xi said he proposed the Global Security Initiative.
The initiative stresses pursuing common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and taking the legitimate security concerns of all countries.
It also calls on all countries to stay committed to peacefully resolving differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation, shoulder the responsibility for peace, follow the path of peaceful development, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
This year's commemorative event is in line with the spirit of maintaining international peace and security enshrined in the UN Charter, Xi said.
He hopes the event will pool the wisdom and strength of all parties and make positive contributions to world peace and stability.
