The average number of active users of China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) reached 40.3 million per day in the first half of this year, and the system was used 320 million times per day, as the application scale has kept enlarging, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Wednesday.

China has continuously improved the BDS industry chain, expanded applications in the mass consumption field and achieved positive results, according to Xu Wenli, deputy head of the MIIT's Electronic Information Department.

"The number of domestic BDS high-precision shared bicycles has exceeded 5 million, while more than 1 million trucks have installed the system," Xu said. "Also, in the first half of this year, 128 new mobile phone models were made accessible to the BDS telecommunication network, and the sales volume of these mobile phone models reached more than 132 million units, accounting for 98.5 percent of the total mobile phone sales."

China will continue to promote the integration and innovation of the BDS and 5G, the Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles, satellite internet and other new technologies, he noted.

The China-developed BDS, which has also served global users for more than two years, has been deeply integrated into and applied in industries such as transportation, disaster prevention and mitigation, and animal husbandry and fishing, according to the 2022 Conference of BDS Applications, which kicked off on Wednesday in Zhengzhou City, central China's Henan Province.

Data showed that the total output value of China's satellite navigation and location services industry reached 469 billion yuan ($66.5 billion) last year.
