As Shanghai walks away from its worst COVID-19 outbreak in the first half of the year, the Spring/Summer 2023 Shanghai Fashion Week returns to offline shows. CGTN reporter Chen Tong takes a closer look.

Fusion – this is the main theme of the opening show of this season's Shanghai Fashion Week. Renowned supermodel-turned fashion designer Lyu Yan is using music from Africa, India and China to show her latest designs. Neat cuts and low-key colors – dozens of looks were presented. As Shanghai Fashion Week returns to offline shows, Lyu says the resumption itself is a highlight this season.

LYU YAN Founder of COMME MOI "We had a lot of pressure to hold this show including meeting the virus-prevention requirements. I'm happy to be here and present the show. It's a great beginning. I hope more shows can be held in Shanghai to let the whole country to see."

CHEN TONG Shanghai "Shanghai Fashion Week's previous season was held entirely online in June due to the COVID outbreak, bringing some challenges to designers and buyers. The resumption of offline shows this season can finally let buyers see the fabrics and designs up close and in person."

Many attendees we spoke to were happy to see the return of in-person shows.

AUDIENCE MEMBER "You have to see these designs in-person and share inspirations with friends."

AUDIENCE MEMBER "It's better to see the texture and style of the new designs. Online videos cannot show them well."

This season's Shanghai Fashion Week runs from September 22 to the 30. Dozens of well-known and young fashion brands will debut their latest designs in the city. Trade shows will also resume offline. Forums on topics including the power of women in the fashion industry and the latest fashion trends will be held in town. CHEN TONG, CGTN, SHANGHAI.
