China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun said on Friday that China will continue to unswervingly support the Group of 77 (G77), to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and achieve mutual development and prosperity.

During the 46th "G77 and China" Ministerial Meeting in New York, Zhang said cooperation and solidarity for both sides are needed more than ever, as risks and challenges, such as COVID-19, geographical conflict, climate change and food and energy crisis, are intertwined.

Being one of the developing countries, Zhang said China welcomes the G77 members to positively engage in the Global Development Initiative (GDI) cooperation and join the Group of Friends of the GDI, together seeking and building a global development community.

Countries should enhance the coordination of macro-economic policies and deepen cooperation in the fields of poverty reduction, health, climate change, financing for development and food and energy crisis, to jointly create a better development environment, he added.

In addition, Zhang said countries need to pursue true multilateralism and safeguard the UN-centered international system, adding that developed countries should offer more practical support to developing countries and deepen South-South Cooperation.

Zhang highly appreciated Pakistan's work as chairmanship and congratulated Cuba on assuming the chairmanship in 2023.
