China's first airport was opened in 1910. It was built in a suburb of Beijing that was used as an imperial hunting field in the Qing Dynasty. Nanyuan airport was used by different governments, and by foreign invaders, before being returned to the People's Republic of China. The 109-year-old airport was closed in 2019, giving way to modern airports like the Beijing Daxing International Airport.
