China firmly supports the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter, the UN's central role in international affairs, the important role of the UN General Assembly in addressing global challenges, and the work of the President of the UN General Assembly, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday during his meeting with UN General Assembly President Csaba Korosi.
Wang met with Korosi on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
China is willing to strengthen its connection with the UN to help achieve the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, said Wang.
"The world today is not peaceful. Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a Global Security Initiative, advocating the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, which offered China's solutions to resolving the peace deficit and tackling the security dilemmas," Wang said.
President Xi also put forward a Global Development Initiative, contributing China's strength to accelerating the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Wang said, adding that China is willing to strengthen its connection with the UN to mobilize more resources and form greater synergy.
Korosi said China is an advocate of multilateralism and an important partner of the UN, playing a key role in the UN General Assembly. The UN will continue to strengthen coordination with China to jointly tackle global challenges, he added.
The initiatives proposed by President Xi have provided visions and solutions for building more consensuses and effectively addressing existing challenges, Korosi said, adding that the UN is looking forward to stepping up coordination with China on such issues as coping with climate change and protecting water resources.
