Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. 

China and Algeria enjoy a specially close friendship, one that has endured tests posed by the international environment and sublimed after their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Wang said.

Noting that China and Algeria have maintained a strong comprehensive strategic partnership, Lamamra said the two sides uphold mutual principles and share mutual goals for national rejuvenation.

He also thanked China for providing support for Algeria's strategic development.

Algeria highly appreciates the Global Development Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China to achieve common prosperity, Lamamra said.

Wang said China appreciates that Algeria joined the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative as one of the first members and is willing to work with Algeria to play a constructive role in promoting world peace.

The two sides agreed to jointly promote international justice, uphold the principle of non-interference in other countries' domestic affairs and defend the UN charter.

They also agreed to expedite consultations on signing the five-year plan for China-Algeria comprehensive strategic cooperation and the implementation plan for jointly constructing the Belt and Road Initiative.
