Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for more cooperation with Gabon to realize common development during a meeting with Gabonese Foreign Minister Michael Moussa Adamo on the sidelines of the ongoing UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.

The Republic of Gabon is one of China's good friends in Africa, said Wang, adding that both countries have forged a profound friendship through treating each other in a friendly and equal manner and continually consolidated and developed a comprehensive partnership by seeking win-win cooperation and common development.

China is willing to work with Gabon to build a high-quality "Belt and Road," thus speeding up the development and revitalization of Gabon and bringing more benefits to the people of Gabon.

Acknowledging that all countries are equal regardless of their sizes, Wang said China always stands with African countries and will continue to do practical things for its African partners to realize local development and revitalization with its African sisters and brothers.

Congratulating Gabon for taking up the presidency of the UN Security Council next month, Wang said China hopes Gabon will strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, maintain and develop the legitimate rights of developing countries together and maintain the basic principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs.

Moussa echoed Wang, saying that the friendship between Gabon and China has a long history and the mutually beneficial cooperation has yielded fruitful results.

As Gabon's largest economic and trade partner, China has helped Gabon improve its infrastructure, said Moussa, adding that China also took the lead in supporting Gabon's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Gabonese government and people will never forget the important contribution that Chinese companies have made to Gabon's economic development," Moussa said.

Gabon is also a reliable partner for China and will continuously firmly abide by the one-China principle and reject the politicization of human rights, Moussa said.

Aiming for further cooperation between the Strategic Plan for Emerging Gabon and China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, Moussa said Gabon hopes both countries will expand cooperation to achieve more mutually beneficial and win-win fruits.
