Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Equatorial Guinean Foreign Minister Simeon Oyono Esono Angue on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.

Under the leadership of the two countries' presidents, the two sides have developed a robust relationship that serves as an example of equality, friendship and mutual support, Wang said. China will enhance strategic exchanges with Equatorial Guinea to benefit both peoples as the traditional friendship grows.

According to Wang, China and Equatorial Guinea have maintained close contact and cooperation in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations. China firmly supports Equatorial Guinea in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as participating in regional and multilateral courses with increasing impact, to ensure the collective benefit of developing countries and unity and cooperation within Africa. He added that the two sides will join hands to continue safeguarding the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.

Equatorial Guinea appreciates China, a trustworthy friend and strong partner, for sharing precious development experience to improve the livelihood of its people, Oyono said.

According to Oyono, Equatorial Guinea firmly supports the one-China policy and the principle of "One Country, Two Systems," and upholds ideas proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, such as the Global Development Initiative. Equatorial Guinea hopes for further strategic exchange and deepened cooperation with China, he added.
