Chinese women's basketball players defeated Puerto Rico 95‐60 in the group stage and reached the quarterfinals at the Women's Basketball World Cup in Sydney, Australia on Monday.

After notching their third victory, confident China joined three-time defending champions the United States and Belgium as teams from Group A to have qualified for the knockout stage.

China booked their spot with a dominant performance over Puerto Rico as they raced out to an early 10-2 lead and steadily widened the gap through crisp ball movement and sharp shooting.

Chinese players exploited their height advantage over Puerto Rico, whose head coach Gerardo Batista substituted his entire starting line-up for a change of fortune.

All 12 Chinese players hit the scoreboard led by Li Yueru (16 points), Zhang Ru (14) and Huang Sijing (12).

With only one defeat to the United States so far, China will finish the group phase on Tuesday with a clash against the 2018 World Cup semifinalists Belgium.
