[Full Episode] BizTalk: Modern Agriculture - Building Resilience
CGTN
30:00

Farmers across China are embracing the autumn harvest. China has succeeded in feeding one-fifth of the world's population with less than ten percent of the world's arable land. However, China's latest 14th Five-Year Plan includes a food security agenda for the first time. So, are food security and self-efficiency still challenges for China? How will China use science, technology and innovation to promote sustainable agriculture?

At the same time, climate change, geopolitical tensions and the turbulent international economy have exacerbated a global food crisis. How severe is the global food crisis? Meanwhile, a wave of protectionism is sweeping across multiple countries and limiting food exports. Will protectionism continue to gain traction?

This week, CGTN BizTalk launches a special edition of "Taking the Pulse of China's Economy," focusing on agriculture and food security. We speak with Carlos Watson, UN Food and Agriculture Organization representative to China, Fan Shenggen, chair professor at China Agricultural University, and Jerrity Chen, head of North Asia Region at Louis Dreyfus Company to explore how China is modernizing its agriculture sector and building a resilient future.
