China lost to Brazil 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 22-25, 22-25) in their last match in Pool D at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Arnhem, the Netherlands, on Saturday.

China had already locked in as the leader of Pool D before Saturday's match. So, coach Cai Bin wanted to use the competition against Brazil to help more players on the team get used to playing against the world's top opponents. He started Wang Weiyi, instead of Wang Mengjie, in the libero position.

China began the first set with a relaxed mindset and an early lead of 8-3 as Li Yingying, Gong Xiangyu, Wang Yunlu and Yuan Xinyue all made contributions to the offense. Every time Brazil began to cut their deficit, China managed to score continuously in time and left the opponent behind again.

Brazil pulled the gap within one point (24-23) after Li's hit was blocked, but Diao Linyu immediately returned a block, helping China win the first set and lead 1-0.

However, the match took an unfavorable turn for China from the second set. The team kept missing attacks after the score reached the 3-3 draw. They were never able to cut their deficit to smaller than five points after trailing 9-4. This set became the first lost set for the team so far in the World Championship.

The third set became much fiercer as neither side could build a lead bigger than three points. After the score reached the 19-19 draw, China again committed a series of errors on offense and handed the lead over to Brazil. As Wang Yunlu's serve was out of bounds, China lost their second set in the tournament.

Brazil followed up the victory with hot pursuit to secure a quick lead of 10-6 in the fourth set. China worked hard to on countercharge, but lacked consistency on both offense and defense. They never pulled their deficit within two points until Brazil reached the match point 24-20. Though an out-of-bounds serve by Brazil and a scored serve by Gong saved China twice, they failed to stop the final hit by 41-year-old veteran Carol Gattaz and lost the match.
