On July 7, 1937, Japanese soldiers attacked Chinese forces at Lugou Bridge on the outskirt of Beijing, marking the beginning of Japan's full-scale invasion. The war was an important part of the Global Anti-Fascist War. An estimated 35 million Chinese were killed or wounded. The war inspired an awakening of the Chinese people and promoted the unity of the Chinese nation.
