The Chinese table tennis contingent continued their mighty form on Sunday as both their men's and women' teams made two wins in the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Chengdu.

Chinese men opted to rest current world number one Fan Zhendong in their second group match, but Olympic champions Ma Long, Lin Gaoyuan and world number three Liang Jinkun still proved too good for the U.S. in every aspect of the encounter.

Despite an uncharacteristic slow start, Ma set the ball rolling by taking down Mishel Levinski at the Chengdu High-tech Sports Centre. Liang Jinkun followed with another convincing win over his American opponent Liang Jishan before Lin secured the 3-0 clean sweep after swatting aside Earl James Alto.

Next up for the Chinese men, who enter the prestigious tournament as the first seed, is a match-up with Slovenia.

Earlier in the day, Chinese women underlined their credentials as hot favorites for the team title with an impressive 3-0 triumph over Puerto Rico. Wang Manyu cruised past Adriana Diaz, while Chen Meng edged out Daniely Rios. Wang Yidi, who made her debut in Chengdu, comfortably sealed the win after outclassing Melanie Diaz.

Meanwhile, International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) President Petra Sorling praised Chengdu organizers for "making the impossible possible" during a press conference.

"It is a pleasure to be here in the capital of Sichuan province, a pleasure to be in the company of so many for whom table tennis is so dear to the heart, " beamed Sorling.

"In this splendid venue, you have made the impossible possible; other than the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are here at the only international sporting event to be staged this year in China!

"That fact sends a clear message, if the spirit is willing, you find solutions."
