Team China advanced to the women's round of 8 at the 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships after defeating Team Hungary in straight sets in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province on Wednesday.

This was the fifth consecutive win for the Chinese women in Chengdu.

Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng, and Wang Manyu, who represented China at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, all clinched 3-0 victories over Leonie Hartbrich, Dora Madarasz, and Helga Dari, respectively.

Sun and Chen, the Tokyo Olympic runner-up and champion, eased past their rivals, while Wang had to resist a strong comeback from Dari after Wang led by 2-0.

Dari led twice in the decider, till Wang managed to level the game at 8-8. Wang went on to seal the victory as the match ended on an error from Dari.

The defending champions will next face the winners between Team Luxembourg and Team Portugual. Their male counterparts will start their campaign in the knockout stage against Team India on Thursday.

Team China have won the men's and women's titles 21 times each at the World Team Table Tennis Championships.
