At least 530 people have been injured after a magnitude-5.4 temblor jolted Khoy County in the northwestern Iranian province of West Azerbaijan early on Wednesday, semi-official Tasnim news agency has reported.
The quake occurred at 3:51 a.m. local time (0021 GMT) at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the Iranian Seismological Center.
Provincial Governor Mohammad-Sadeq Motamedian was quoted by Tasnim as saying that 135 people have been admitted to hospitals, at least 500 homes were damaged, including 50 that have collapsed completely, and all relevant forces and units are on full alert and carrying out rescue operations.
