The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Navy's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier are conducting joint exercises in waters surrounding Japan, including the Sea of Japan, NHK reported, citing the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said it would strengthen the deterrence of the Japan-U.S. alliance as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) repeatedly launches ballistic missiles.
