James McKusick, a researcher at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a member of the Board of Directors of the Edgar Snow Memorial Foundation, gained an interest in China from U.S. journalist Edgar Snow's 1937 book "Red Star Over China."
In 1936, Snow visited northwest China, stayed with the Communist Party of China for more than four months, and wrote the book in 1937 to show the real image of the Party and the Red Army under its leadership to the world.
Since 2016, McKusick has visited China three times and traveled to a number of cities and villages. He said that the development achievements China has made over the last decade are remarkable and exemplary.
