Since 1989, Chimed Dorje has been delivering mail through snow-capped mountains with an average altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level in Sichuan's Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the highest of which is over 6,000 meters tall. Even though it was over a decade after China began its reform and opening-up policy, the remote and mountainous areas where he delivered mail were still isolated. He and his partners played a crucial role in maintaining communication between rural and urban areas.
