Close to 20 black-necked cranes, a national first-class protected species native to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, were recently spotted in the wetlands of northwest China's Qinghai Province. Dubbed the "panda of birds," the cranes mainly inhabit swamps, lakes and floodplains at elevations between 2,500 and 5,000 meters.
