The Chinese women's volleyball players lost 25-16, 25-22, 13-25, 25-17 to their Italian rivals in the quarterfinals at the world championship in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands on Tuesday.
Team China, ranking fifth in the world, had a slow start in the beginning but manged to catch up in the second set before losing two critical points due to service errors.
The Chinese squad did not lose momentum but set a good rhythm in the third set and secured a win with big margin.
However, in the fourth set, Italy took advantage over China's poor first pass and cruised into the semifinal of the championship.

Star opposite Paola Egonu scored a match-high 29 points and Chinese outside hitter Li Yingying scored a team-high 14 points while Wang Yunlu contributed 11.
Italy had been an arch-rival of China in recent games, who won over China 3-0 in their pool match earlier in Rotterdam, and defeated the Asian team 3-1 in the Women's Volleyball Nations League quarterfinals last July.
Defending champions Serbia overcame Poland to face Team USA in the semifinals, who swept Turkey 25-22, 25-15 and 25-20.
World No. 3 Italy will clash against Brazil in another semifinal on Thursday.
