The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) will switch to Russian nuclear fuel after it has exhausted its current reserves, state news agency TASS reported on Thursday, citing an official from Russian nuclear power operator Rosenergoatom.
"The fuel that is in operation will be used up ... ours will be used in the future," Renat Karchaa, an adviser to Rosenergoatom's director-general, reportedly declared.
Russia and Ukraine have traded blame over recent shelling near the plant that has led to power cuts and forced the plant's operators to switch to emergency diesel generators which have previously been reported to have a 10-day fuel supply.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Wednesday that external power was restored to ZNPP a few hours after its connection to the grid was cut for the second time since October 8.
