The essence of China's "dynamic zero-COVID" policy is to bring the epidemic situation under control with minimum costs for the society and in the shortest possible time, according to Sun Yeli, spokesperson for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

"We all long for (the pandemic's) early end," Sun said during a press conference on Saturday. "As things stand, however, it is still lingering. That is the reality."

Sun stressed that with all things considered, China's COVID response measures are the most cost-effective and work the best for the Chinese people.

"Since the onset of the epidemic, China has put people and people's lives front and center," he said. "We give top priority to people's health and safety. This is part and parcel of our epidemic response efforts."

The dynamic zero-COVID policy has been adopted in light of China's national realities and it is a science-based policy, Sun added.

According to Sun, the policies will become more and more scientific, precise and effective in the future, with improved balance between COVID control and economic development.
